For centuries, people of India and many other Asian countries have known the benefits of drinking water from Copper Vessels. Early Ayurvedic scriptures have identified many health benefits of storing water in copper vessels. Now, the current western medical studies are also supporting this ancient Ayurvedic practice.
When water is stored in a copper vessel overnight or for at least eight hours, a small amount of copper ions gets dissolved into the water. This process is called the Oligodynamic effect which has led to numerous health benefits for us to reap.
Improves the Digestive System
Drinking from a copper water bottle is very beneficial to the digestive system. It flushes out the stomach and digestive tract and helps detox the liver and kidneys. It also increases the absorption of nutrients from food and helps encourage peristalsis, which is the rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the stomach that helps digest food and move it through the digestive system.
Builds a Strong Immune System
Copper is well-known for its incredible anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. Copper is especially effective against E. coli and S.aureus, two bacteria that are commonly found in our environment and are known to cause severe illnesses in the human body.
Supports Weight Loss and Detox
In addition to improving the functioning of your digestive system and building a strong immune system, drinking from a copper water bottle will help your body eliminate toxins and excess waste as efficiently as possible.
Because water stored in a copper vessel is loaded with anti-oxidants, it is also effective at helping prevent and fight off cancer. In fact, studies conducted by the American Cancer Society have shown that copper has significant anti-cancer effects on the body and prevents the onset of cancer.
Maintains Cardiovascular Health
Studies have also shown that copper helps minimize the risk of developing heart disease, helps regulate blood pressure, and lowers cholesterol levels. Copper also helps prevent the build-up of plaque in the arteries and dilates blood vessels to allow better flow of blood to the heart.
It is important to note that you should only use vessels made of pure copper. Do not buy the ones that have other metals mixed in them.
It’s also important to know that you should not drink from a copper bottle or vessel 24/7. Despite the numerous health benefits of drinking water from copper vessels, this does not mean that you can drink this water all day long.
Drinking this water all day can result in a copper toxicity, which is what happened to me. I received a beautiful copper bottle for Christmas and it immediately became my main source of drinking water for several months. The following June I saw my doctor for a routine checkup and had my blood tested. She called me a few days later to inquire about slightly high copper levels. I explained that my only real exposure to copper, that I was aware of, was from my water bottle. This wasn’t a huge deal; I simply did some research on copper vessels and spoke with a few of my teachers at CSNN (Canadian School of Natural Nutrition) and came to the conclusion that I had to limit my intake of copper water.
Drinking the water stored in your copper vessel once early in the morning is more than enough to get the required amount of copper to stimulate the digestive system and receive its many other benefits, without creating toxicity.
